Gamma Cygni Nebula

Description
The star to the right in the image is the center star in the constellation of Cygnus the Swan is Gamma Cygni and is called Sadr. The nebula however has no relation to this nebula. Sadr is about 1800 light years from us while the nebula is almost 5000 light years distant. The nebula is illuminated by ionized hydrogen that is excited by a single O-type star that is actually invisible to us because it is hidden within the dense parts of the nebula. The Universe is amazing!
